A tough away trip against one of the fancied sides proved ultimately disappointing as Weldon suffered a hard to take defeat. The visitors started confidently as they knocked the ball around at will but missed chances through Matty O'Neill and Jay Arnold. The visitors who were playing a little more direct than previous meetings proved useful from set-pieces and long balls, and took the lead through one of these avenues. The Weldon defence gave a cheap corner and a free header from 6 yards gave the home side the lead. Weldon keeper Callum Leech did make a fine save after his original mistake but the confident Weldon side did equalize after a fine long ball from youthful debutant Sam Matthew found Matty O'Neill who confidently placed past the home keeper and the sides went in level at the break. Immediately after the interval the home side took the lead as a long ball over the top of the Weldon defence was dispatched well by the home forward. Weldon huffed and puffed without really creating many clear chances and the set-piece frailties of Weldon were exposed again as from another corner Welford scored a 3rd goal with a far post header and complete the scoring. Weldon will need to improve to begin to climb the table but with the impressive debut of Matthews and the return of keeper Callum Leech and striker Richard Moore things should begin to improve.
